I've added two new links which look useful for argumentative essays / talks.
They are both American-based resources and contain lots of information on a range of controversial issues, including lists of arguments for and against each issue.
BalancedPolitics.org describes itself as "a website dedicated to balanced, non-partisan discussion of important societal issues." It also discusses the difference between "Left" and "Right" politics and describes these in relation to the American Republicans and Democrats.
Social Issues Homework Centre has been "created to meet the needs of Multnomah County middle and high school students researching current social issues from multiple perspectives." This site lists lots of different topics and, for each, provides links to research material.
